LabLit needs short fiction

There aren't many examples of "lab lit" fiction, but awareness of the genre seems to be gaining ground.

LabLit needs short fiction

Postby Editor on Thu Jul 17, 2008 12:34 pm

Hi all

For the first time in LabLit's history 3.5 year history, there is no fiction waiting in the publication queue. If you, or anyone you know, has an original short story (or something longer that could be serialized) involving science/scientists - but not science fiction - can you/they get in touch? It can have been published before if it was just in a small circulation mag or newsletter.

Otherwise I'll have to write something myself, but publishing my own fiction has thus far violated my own editorial ethics policy. :)

As you were.

These buggers can't even commit to a web-story...

I can have something not-especially-good for you soon, if you'd care to cast an editorial eye over it.

Well, in that vein I'm sure I can get something utterly shite out for you to look at too :D

I'm seriously out of practice when it comes to writing, but I had a long incubation to wait through today and nothing else to do, so I thought I'd have a go to try and get over this writer's block. I'm not going to write and rewrite it - I think it would be more educational to simply throw it straight to the Ed to tear apart... um, constructively criticize.

I will be gentle.

When I was first starting out, several people ripped my stuff apart and there is no better way to learn.

Jenny is very tactful, at least on the non-fiction side! :)

...until you make the same silly mistake a couple of times and then the Red Pen of Doom comes out and the tone of the email becomes considerably more.... terse...

Or maybe Jenny just figured out quickly how to get me to concentrate!

Well, sent my baby off (it was probably premature anyway) to be pulled apart by the wolves.

I wish I could help out, but the wells of preternaturally chthonic eldritchness are pretty dry right now...
