This is an interesting diversion, so it's not really part of the master plan.

But that's fine; it's how this should work.

PM me your side of the conversation Beatrice, and I'll add Michel's bits. Remember that he doesn't know Toni; he knows Max though. And he has something surprising to say.

Hey Challenge, I'm surprised by what you say. I don't find Slater repellent or chauvenistic at all. I see him as being refreshingly honest, and knowing a player (Sabine) when he sees one. In fact I would say I find myself quite compelled by how he is shaping up. I think he's far more upset by Charlotte's death than he is letting on.

Maybe I was overreacting a little when I read it... it was more the attitude towards the young and ... well, I was wrong and overreacting before morning coffe. (Maybe there is someone else one should dislike? I dunno.)

But I still don't really feel like he would be my pick :) And yes, I think he is upset about the death, just not sure on how upset and why...

I would keep your eye on Slater, folks...he's going to keep surprising you!

Thanks for the kind words, MDE. I am enjoying this...

I'm enjoying this too. It's definitely worth publication on LabLit -- perhaps when we reach the end of Part I, the first installment can go up. I am enjoying all the different points of view and have absolutely no idea what will happen (always a good sign)...although I have some theories!

Keep up the good work -

As we've come quite a way and introduced the major characters, I'd like one or two more posts in the two current locations (pub and lab) then wrap up part I.

I think the 'parts' are going to be slightly longer than you'd expect chapters to be in a book, although I'll try and keep the breaks natural.

There's one more character I'd like to see, and if anyone wants in they should ping me. Both premonition and Beatrice should bear this in mind, as he has some interesting information for them . . .

Chapter lengths vary so widely...it's getting close now to what one might expect for a long chapter, I reckon. When you said 'Part' before, I was assuming you meant as in a novel when you have only 2 or 3 parts.

Do you have a master plan for roughly how many parts/chapters?

Mad Dan,
please don't punish me, but I've run out of time - I'm away this weekend in bonny Norfolk and I thought I've have time do do some Maxing beforehand but in the end couldn't squeeze it in. Hopefully Sunday night! Sorry for the delay folk - unless Toni wants to talk to Michel first!

I'm happy to be confronted by Brad - but isn't is a bit soon for Brad's science-y stuff to come out? Not thaI know the master plan, but his and Michel's stuff seems very denoument-ish.

Gosh yes, but what I meant was he catches Slater apparently macking on Sabine (the young'uns not being able to spot things like you foggies). Check your PM, I had an idea...

Sounds good. Allude to the sciencey stuff if you like - no need to reveal everything all at once.
