Neil deGrasse Tyson

From information overload to increasing worries about technological backlash, the drive to explain science to the public, and to make it more appealing to them, has never been stronger.

Nice work on that interview, tideliar. What a kick to talk to someone so interesting! Who will be your next "conquest"?

Cheers. He's a blast to talk to, and really as animated as you imagine (if you've seen him on TV). I really wanna go to Hayden/Rose Center sometime too.

Next conquest...I've wanted to snag Bryan May for ages, but he's super busy and his book has been out a while now... I've a couple of ideas though :)

suggestions?

Brian May (guitarist, astrophysicist) or someone else?

I was such a nerdy Queen fan when I was a teenager

Number 1 - make sure you spell his name right when you email him (tried Imperial College's people directory...?). 8)

I would put in a good word for you but I don't know him - I never bumped into him when he returned recently to complete his PhD.

My impression of you has plummeted. I thought you were the epitome of cool, Curry.

Can we just take a moment to imagine what it would have been like to be on Brian May's thesis panel?

Very sorry to disappoint. But it was bound to happen sooner or later.

What was his thesis on? I haven't heard this story!
Bollocks. I was so excited about showing off my lipid-based prowess I failed to notice that Chall was talking about Dick.

The thesis title

Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud

sounds more like something by Pink Floyd rather than Queen.

Ha ha.

Damn I didn't realise it was a serious topic he did - assumed it was some sci-art bollocks. That is the epitome of cool. Tiddles, go forth and get that interview!!

I heard him speak about his thesis topic at an astrophysics conference a couple of years ago. He gave a good talk. Didn't get any questions though! Think we were all a bit over-awed.
You might try contacting Prof Michael Rowan-Robinson in the astrophysics group at Imperial - Michael was his supervisor.
