Science on TV

From information overload to increasing worries about technological backlash, the drive to explain science to the public, and to make it more appealing to them, has never been stronger.

Science on TV

Yes, Science on TV, not in TV.

Jonathan Sanderson is a TV producer, specializing in science for children, and an all round good egg. He says that 'science TV is dead'.

What say all y'all?

Er...you're asking a bunch of people willing to download and watch video of scientists singing about PCR and failing to grow yeast cultures.

But. I did stay up till nearly 3 am watching the TV version of...Schactman's? pop-sci book about temperature. I thought it was totally riveting.

Not entirely dead. There's a nice series on (I think 4) at the moment called StormChasers, about crazy scientists who drive vans after twisters to measure stuff.

There is a lot that stinks, but was it ever thus?

That Stormchasers show was hilarious. The boyish exubarence of the director vs. the nerdy deliberateness of the cheif scientist makes for rather compelling viewing.

I think it's a totally dead art form overall. I grew up with classic NOVA and that's so hard to match now.

I no longer bother, mostly. Would rather watch a good drama!
